John Eric Banck
Mr. Banck buys the island from the Stachouwer family in 1858. He moors the seawall, creating the Banckspolder and he establishes the Nautical School. He promotes the start of tourism, in 1866 he establishes the NV Noordzee Badmaatschappij. He provides a steam ferry service between Groningen and Schiermonnikoog, leaves the Badweg paved and in 1887 builds the luxurious Badhôtel.
